Submitting your CNAP Application to the GALAXIE Portal
Your CNAP application is ready and now you’re considering to start filling out the online portal with all your documents to be completely ready by the deadline of the concours. First of all, well done for getting this far! Your final boss for this stage is the GALAXIE portal 👹. In this blog post, we will guide you through the structure of this portal step by step.
⚠️ It is important to know that you cannot save your application process along the way: you need to fill in all the different steps in one go and then confirm in order to save it.
You can however modify your application until the deadline: once you confirm your submission, you’ll have a summary of your whole application available and you’ll be able to modify it. Keep this in mind, because many candidates spent time on writing some sections just to see them gone because they didn’t go through the whole process in one go.
Creating an Account
Now that your documents are ready, you can create your account on the GALAXIE portal to submit your application.
If it is your first application, then you’ll need to create an account, which gives you a candidate number. If you already applied previously, or if you applied to any other applications through the GALAXIE portal (e.g., demande de qualification to apply to a position as maître de conférences), you’ll need your candidate number to log in: it stays the same for all the different applications.
Sections to Fill in Before Submitting
The submission is divided in six steps that all need to be filled in to save your application. Each step is on one page, and you need to finish one to have access to the next:
- Recherche de concours - Search of wanted concours: as it is the same platform for the whole CNAP, you need to specify here whether you want to apply to the Adjoint-Astronomer (junior) or Astronomer position (senior), or Adjoint-Physicist (junior) or Physicist (senior) position.
- Conditions à remplir - Conditions to access the concours: you’ll need to choose between two options: either you hold a French diploma or you have a foreign equivalent.
- Profil candidat - Candidate profile: you’ll need to provide, again (yes we’re getting sick of this too as we’re writing this…):
- Your personal identity information with a mandatory picture and your address.
- Information about your PhD (title, place, supervisor, year of defense).
- Title of your Master degree (or equivalent).
- A 800-character summary of your research field, skills and main results, similar to the one-page summary of your scientific application.
- Your current professional situation.
- Recherche et activités - Research and different activities:
- A summary of your research project (400 characters max)
- Up to 2 keywords representing your research and your methodology.
- The number of all your publications.
- The number of your first-author publications.
- The number of other publications.
- The selection of your five most significative publications.
- The type (ANO) of your requested SNO.
- A 400-character description of your SNO.
- Your teaching experience (400 characters).
- Your organizational responsibilities (400 characters).
- Your supervising experience (400 characters).
- Upload of both the administrative and scientific application files here.
- Affectation souhaitée - Requested host institution: First, you have to declare how many times you have previously applied to CNAP.Then, you can put down up to three requested target institutions, by order of preference. Note that it is recommended to only add host institutions here that are mentioned in your scientific application.
- Confirmation - Confirmation: You need to confirm that you are officially applying to this concours by ticking a box. You need to click on “Terminer” (finish) in order to save your application!
Once you validate all these steps, then you’ll be able to see, in the left panel, that you have one ongoing application. By clicking on it, you’ll see a summary of everything that you entered and you’ll be able to modify your application until the deadline.
Submitting your application in the portal requires to repeat a lot of information that is already in the scientific and administrative application files, which makes the process rather cumbersome. It can be overwhelming to do everything at once but it is important to take the time to deal with each step properly. Take your time to do this and you’ll do great (we’re rooting for you!) 🙂
Once you’re here, well done, the first part is over ! After the deadline, you’ll “just” have to wait and see if you get selected for the auditions. Stay tuned to our blog for advice for this next step but please, remember to take some rest, you’re doing great and you deserve it!
